When Dom Pedro II (Peter II) became 18 in 1840 the Paliment declared he was old enough to rule. He was a very capable ruler and passed many reforms.

Pedro II was thrown out in 1889. He just had time to start making crowns with his portrait on them.

Starting in the 1830's Brazil moved over to a regular decimal sytem for its coianage.

In Nov 1889 General Manuel Deodoro da Fonseca forced Dom Pedro II to Abdicate. A Republic was proclaimed. The Constitution was adopted in 1891, the year of the 1st Republican 2000 reis coins, which unfortunately, I do not have a sample of.

Of course I have seen nice specimens advertised on EBay at 1/2 the price I'd be willing to pay.
