Coin Comments

The following coins are my attempt to document major historical eras through a coin collection. These coins span an era from the 1st century BCE until about 1900 or 1930's for some countries. Not discussed are modern coins nor recent non-circulating commemorative coins made only for sale. In general all of these coins were made to be used as actual payment in the days when specie (silver or gold) was required in a coin.

Over the years I've become specialized in 4 major areas and while I'll still look at other coins, generally I try to only acquire coins in these areas. Recently this has gotten much harder to do as even relatively common coins in nice condition have become much more expensive. This is due to a sharp increase in interest in coins as investments.

If you have coins for sale in the above categories, I'm always interested. Additionally I like the minor coinage of early Latin America, simply because of their historical importance even though some important dealers have written that these are poor investment items.

The minor coinage circulated in the issuing countries while the 8 reales and 8 escudos were exported to provide foreign exchange.
although I do not recommend coins as investments the following is a link
